Morning Prayer

Morning Collects (at Lauds)

O God, who dividest the day from the night: set our deeds apart from the gloom of darkness, that ever meditating on things holy we may live continually in thy light. Through our Lord.

We give thee thanks, O Lord, holy Father, almighty, everlasting God, who hast vouchsafed to bring us through the space of the night to the morning hours: we beseech thee to grant us to pass this day without sin, so that at evening we may give thanks unto thee, our God. Through our Lord.

Rising from our beds, O Lord, we implore the help of thy grace with morning prayers, that, the darkness of our sins being scattered, we may deserve to walk in the light of virtues. Through.

Thee, O Lord, the true light and the author of light, we beseech, that thou wouldest vouchsafe to drive from us the darkness of sins, and to make us bright with the light of virtues. Through.

Enlighten, O Lord, we beseech thee, the hearts of them that believe in thee, that we may ever be protected by thy defence and by thy help. Through.

Enlighten, we beseech thee, O Lord, our darkness, and in thy mercy drive away all the snares of the night. Through our Lord.

Let thy truth, O Lord, ever enlighten us, and defend us from all depravity. Through our Lord.

Save us, almighty God, and grant us light everlasting. Through our Lord.

Let thy truth, we beseech thee, O Lord, shine in our hearts, and let the falsehood of the enemy be destroyed.

We beseech thee, O Lord our God, sustain the troubles of the day by the quiet of the night; that, as the needful change of the seasons follows, our weakness may be refreshed. Through our Lord.

Hear us, merciful God, and show to our minds the light of thy grace. Through our Lord.

Increase in us, O Lord, we beseech thee, thy faith, and ever kindle in us the light of the Holy Spirit. Through.

We give thanks to thine unspeakable goodness, almighty God, who, driving away the mist from us, hast brought us to the beginning of this day, and, casting off the blindness of ignorance, hast called us back to the worship and knowledge of thy name: glide into our understandings, almighty Father, that walking in the light of thy commandments we may follow thee as our leader and prince. Through our Lord.

O God, who drivest away the darkness of ignorance by the light of thy word: increase in our hearts the strength of the faith which thou hast given, that the fire which thy grace hath kindled may be quenched by no temptations. Through our Lord.

O God, who rewardest with a heavenly recompense them that watch in thy praises: vouchsafe to take away darkness from our hearts, that we may ever rejoice in the splendour of thy light. Through our Lord.
