English translation by AnglicanGuide from the Latin. Read the Latin edition. Words in [brackets] are supplied or summarise omitted matter.

The Irish Mass opens with a litany of the apostles (with petitions recalling Noah, Jonah and Peter saved from the waters) and, after the Gradual, the Deprecation of St Martin, a deacon's litany of intercession for the Church, the bishop, rulers, travellers, penitents and a peaceful end. The Litany

The Litany of the Apostles, Martyrs, Confessors and Virgins

Here beginneth the Litany of the holy apostles and martyrs, confessors and virgins. O God, make speed to save me. [Ps. 70:1]

We have sinned, O Lord, we have sinned; spare our sins, and save us.

Thou that didst steer Noah upon the waters of the flood, hear us.

And didst call back Jonah from the deep by thy word, deliver us.

Thou that didst stretch out thy hand to Peter as he sank, help us, O Christ, Son of God.

Thou didst wonderful things, O Lord, with our fathers; be merciful also in our times. Send down thine hand from on high: deliver us.

Christ, hear us. Christ, hear us. Christ, hear us. Kyrie eleison.
