Confirmatio puerorum
Versicles
The Confirmation of Children. First let the Bishop say: Our help is in the name of the Lord. Blessed be the name of the Lord. The Lord be with you. And with thy spirit. Let us pray.
The Prayer for the Sevenfold Spirit
Prayer. Almighty, everlasting God, who hast vouchsafed to regenerate these thy servants of water and the Holy Spirit, and hast given them remission of all sins: send into them thy sevenfold Holy Spirit, the Paraclete, from heaven. Amen. The spirit of wisdom and understanding. Amen. The spirit of knowledge and godliness. Amen. The spirit of counsel and might. ✠ Amen. And fill them with the spirit of the fear of the Lord. ✠ Amen. And of thy favour sign them with the sign of the holy cross ✠ and confirm them with the chrism of salvation unto life eternal. Amen.
The Signing with Chrism
And then the Bishop shall ask the name, and dip his thumb in the chrism, and make a cross on the forehead of the child, saying: I sign thee, N., with the sign of the cross ✠ and confirm thee with the chrism of salvation. In the name of the Fa✠ther, and of the ✠ Son, and of the Holy ✠ Ghost. Amen. Peace be to thee.
The Prayer after Confirmation
Let us pray. Prayer. O God, who didst give the Holy Spirit to thine apostles, and willedst that through them he should be given to their successors and to the rest of the faithful: look favourably on the service of our lowliness, and grant that the same Holy Spirit, coming upon the hearts of these whose foreheads we have anointed with the holy chrism and signed with the sign of the holy cross, may by graciously dwelling in them make them a perfect temple of his glory. Through our Lord, in the unity of the same.
The Blessing
Behold, thus shall every man be blessed that feareth the Lord. The Lord bless you out of Sion, that ye may see the good things of Jerusalem all the days of your life. May almighty God bless you, the Fa✠ther, and the ✠ Son, and the Holy ✠ Ghost. Amen.
